    The drum should be cylindrically round with no obvious out-of-roundness, dents, warps, or deformation. Run your eye (or a straightedge) down the side — a good drum holds a consistent circle from top to bottom. Reject: visible oval shape, collapsed panels, or a lean to one side.
  2. Body surface: smooth, sealed, and evenly coated.
    The drum wall must be smooth, free of mechanical damage, creases, and glue separation (delamination). Where waterproof paint is applied, it should be uniform — no missed spots, no air bubbles, and no obvious sagging or running. Reject: cracks, open seams, bubbling, or paint that drips and pools at the base.
  3. Rolled rim: clean, with no paper tongue.
